COMMENTS:
- Note the rare verb form 'gamaHa'. [KAL2015] [1] terms this as an 'Imperfect' verb derived from 'agamaHa' (with the augment 'a' dropped). [MM2015] [2] terms it as an 'Aorist' verb (again with the 'a' augment dropped). According to the Ashtadhyayi sutras 3.3.175 and 3.3.176, 'mA sma' ('do not') may be followed by a verb in either the Imperfect form or the Aorist form. Note that the form 'gamaHa' lacks the augment 'a' that is found in both the Imperfect and Aorist conjugations. The augment 'a' is not permitted in the verb in the presence of the 'mA' prohibitive particle vide Panini sutra 6.4.74. This verb phrase is an early Vedic form, that is also sometimes called an 'Injunctive' (see [burrow2001] [3] and [kip2005] [4]), and is similar to the Imperfect and the Aorist forms but lacks the augment 'a'.
