COMMENTS:

  • The parser inserted the elided copula verb ('as:2:P:to be') in clause B.4.
  • In clauses B.2 and B.3, the parser treats 'kim' as a NOM-S term, whereas [KAL2015] [1] treats the term as ACC-S. [MM2015] [2] treats both occurrences of 'kim' as Indeclinables. The treatment by the parser as well as by [KAL2015] is incorrect because there should be an elided subject that is shared with clause B.1 in both clauses B.2 and B.3. However, it must be noted that there is no explicit subject even in clause B.1; the NOM-S term 'sthitadhIHa' is a modifier of an implicit subject that will be understood by the human reader to refer to an indefinite person. The parser selects the NOM-S form of 'kim' in both clauses because it assumes that both 'AsIta:sit' and 'vrajeta:walk' are intransitive verbs, and do not require an object argument. The correct assignment of Indeclinable, as well as an elided/ shared subject, requires a deeper semantic understanding of the stanza, which is beyond the capabilities of a syntactic parser.
  • In clause B.3, note that the parser selected the III-Person Singular Benedictive Verb conjugation for 'vrajeta', instead of the identical form in the II-Person Plural Potential Verb conjugation.
