COMMENTS:

  • Clause A.1 has a missing subject 'hRuSHIkeshaHa' that must be pragmatically 'read in' from the previous context. Our parser cannot do this presently.
  • Not knowing about the missing subject, the parser wrongly assumed that the verb 'uvAcha' was in the Perfect-1st Person Singular conjugated form (as the Perfect-1S underlying form and the Perfect-3S form are identical) i.e. it wrongly assumed that the clause had a dropped pronoun subject ('I'), instead of a missing subject ('hRuSHIkeshaHa'). This is a defective assignment by the parser that is very difficult to handle correctly without an understanding of the broader context of the conversation.
  • The word 'bhISHmadroNNapramukhatas' is treated as an Indeclinable by the parser. [MM2015] [1] also treats the term as an Indeclinable. However [KAL2015] [2] treats it as a NOM-P term. In this stanza, the word has an adverbial role ('in front of Bhishma and Drona'), rather than a subject role (and in any case, the NOM-P form does not agree with the 3rdPersonSingular form of the verb 'uvAcha'). Hence this is not a defect.
